Access Copyright ("AC") has responded to CMEC's motion for leave to intervene. It strongly opposed the motion and asks that the motion be dismissed with costs of $2,500 payable forthwith.
York University's response is very short and "does not oppose the motion".

AC's opposition to CMEC's involvement is not surprising since it would help solidify any analogy between K-12 and post-secondary education. Allowing it would be a clear nod to their similarities and, since sympathies towards K-12 education with respect to fair dealing for one, are easier to come by than towards post-secondary entities, AC doesn't want the smell of unwashed children who can't do basic math on this one.
ReplyDeleteChild students don't pay tuition - but when post secondary students do pay already-high tuition, AC sees a meal.
