Very good news from Washington.
Maria Pallante, who was serving as Acting Register, has been appointed Register of Copyrights. She follows in the footsteps of highly respected predecessors such as Marybeth Peters, Ralph Oman, and Barbara Ringer. She is highly qualified and widely well-liked and respected. She brings very substantial expertise in both domestic and international copyright law, as well as the genuinely balanced perspective of a truly objective civil servant.
She was appointed by the Librarian of Congress, James Billington - himself a legend in his own right. Here's the official announcement.
Here's my blog from earlier about the search process. There were many well qualified candidates.
Best wishes to Maria for a long, healthy and successful tenure in one of, if not the most important copyright positions in the world.HK
