It's like how our school had "public input" for two weeks on a difficult to use and obscure web forum on the new environment building.

I've emailed an objection but I'm afraid it won't be enough. It would help with getting people in on this if your post started with a "this is what you can do right here right now, here's a model letter to get you started". A lot of people my age are worried about stuff like this but are apathetic that we can really have any impact (and really, I'm with them).Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20803105.post-77342437037879995182010-08-08T22:25:17.999-04:002010-08-08T22:25:17.999-04:00Rory - I agree. And I did say "$2 per student - or maybe even much less".

The Board can also restructure AC's proposal to allow different strokes for different folks.

There's also an option simply to bpass AC or use it only very selectively.

More to come. In the meantime, objections must be filed by August 11, 2010.

HKHoward Knopfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18321190334597129416noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-20803105.post-71620896529712405452010-08-08T17:33:27.284-04:002010-08-08T17:33:27.284-04:00Thanks for taking a lead on this Howard. From our point of view as open university (Athabasca U) who are moving to use more and more online materials, a per student fee is discriminatory. It discriminates against open access. We would pay the same per student fee as a university that did not use open access materials. In fact, such a fee structure would encourage institutions to use proprietary rather than open materials.
RoryRory McGrealhttp://www.athabascau.ca/research/staff/rorymcg.phpnoreply@blogger.com
